Step-by-Step Process of Pressure Sensitive Labels
We have one of the fastest turn-around times of pressure sensitive labels in the industry, but we are still asked why printing takes so long. Here is a step-by-step list of all that is required to print just one label.
-
The customer orders a label to be printed.
-
Digital files are created by or sent to our art department. (Film is also accepted. We also offer design, see Design Services.)
-
The art department prepares the files for printing.
-
A PDF label proof is sent to the customer for approval or changes.
-
If there are changes, the changes are made and a new proof is sent to the client for approval or more changes.
-
If it is a new wine label, proofs are made for TTB approval. This can add a few weeks to a month to the production process.
-
Once approval is given by both the customer and TTB, the files are prepared for production.
-
Any required cutting, foil, emboss or combo dies are created.
Digital Printing
-
The digital files are sent directly to the digital press.
-
A color proof is created for final color approval from the customer of any new labels.
-
Any requested changes are made and a new color proof is sent.
-
Once final approval is made, the labels are printed, foil stamped, embossed and die cut.
UV Waterless Offset
-
Film is created from the digital files.
-
If the files are process color or especially complex a color proof is created for customer approval.
-
If there are any requested changes on the label proof, new film is made and a new proof is sent.
-
Once final approval is given, the film is prepared or “stripped.”
-
The stripped film is burned onto printing plates.
-
The plates are sent to the press and the labels are printed, foil stamped, embossed and die cut.
-
All labels are then varnished for protection from scuffing.
-
The label rolls are prepared to specific customer requirements to aid in applying the new labels to their product.
-
Quality assurance is maintained throughout the production process
and makes one final check on the finished labels.
-
The printed labels are packaged and shipped to the customer.
